The Gathering fell in love with COTN (Children of the Nations) in the fall of 2012. We began sponsoring children, hosting food and hygiene packing parties and now... 20 of us are heading down to our adopted Batey of Algodon near the Haiti border. We invite you to follow our adventure as we serve as the hands and feet of Jesus...
Travel Itinerary
Friday Evening - Leave San Diego
Saturday - Layover in Newark, New Jersey
Catch a flight in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Bus ride into Barahona, travel orientation and rest
Sunday - Church in the morning, beach and waterfalls in the afternoon. Sundays are a day of rest in the communities, so projects are not done on these days
Monday - Tour some of the Bateys (villages) in the morning, meet the staff, start projects
Tuesday - Friday - Projects...the teams will be divided up into groups probably to accomplish your projects. We mostly do construction in the morning when it is a bit cooler, then work on community type projects (Like the ProVector and Skin Care) in the afternoons
Saturday - Part of the team will depart from the Santo Domingo Airport and arrive back in San Diego that evening.
Sunday - Wednesday - The rest of the team will stay for relaxation and rest.
Wednesday - Those staying on will depart from Santo Domingo and arrive back in San Diego that evening.

Our Projects
Drainage Project:
Dig a trench in front of the school and then turn at the corner of the property and run a pipe to the back of the property. Then raise the height of the entrance 4" - 6" to move the water to the new drain system. The drain system will consist of 200' of 10" - 14" pipe with several drain boxes on corners. Estimated time is 4-5 days. Team size 7-10
ProVector Flower:
The ProVector targets mosquitoes that carry deadly diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and West Nile virus. The ProVector can kill 50 to 100 percent of mosquitoes within days. Teams will be placing in homes, training families on its use, mapping placement of flowers for COTN and WHO tracking. Any size team. Estimated completion 2-3 days
Skin Care Project:
Providing skin care for the children. Teaching families how to care for their skin and do any specific surgeries or prescribing any medicine for the child to get healthier skin. Items to bring: Skin care medicine, surgical tools, preventive care handouts, etc.
Repair School Gate and Buildings:
Repair and paint areas damaged. Any size team
Recreation day with the kids and a Cultural Immersion day which involves Traveling as a group to other Bateys
